The Wildly Whimsical Tales of Gracie & Sniggles: The Mystery of the Blue Goo
by Teressa Hill, Karine Makartichan (Illustrations)
This is a great story with fun whimsical rhyming throughout. It's about a girl named Gracie and her dog, Sniggles, who wears a top hat, as they embark on an adventure, and meet new friends. They have moved out of the city and into the suburbs. When they arrive, they set out to explore their new surroundings. They meet a crow named Bob, Lucy the pink cat, Ziggy the squirrel, and Bumble a wee little bee who has somehow been painted blue. Bumble is sad because the queen bee will not allow him back into the hive because he is not yellow. They go on to discover that a man, Mr. Finklestein, was outside painting a birdhouse when his gizmo blew and created a plume of blue that covered the bee. Now he is going to help. He creates a thingamabob to let Bumble bathe in. Soon Bumble is all cleaned up and ready to return to his bee friends and be welcomed again.

This was a great story about friendship. I Love stories like this where we get to meet new characters throughout the story. It's nice to see everyone tagging along and trying to help the bee. I liked the uniqueness of some of the characters like the pink cat, the dog in the top hat and the old man. I loved seeing Sniggles and Gracie together. It reminded me of my daughter and our mini dachshund. They love being together and he's always waiting for her to get up from her nap. This book is about 70 pages long so it is not a typical children’s book length but it’s still a nice easy read. The words are fun and rhyme very well. I’d say it's a good read for a 5-7 year old to read on their own. This is the kind of book I would picture being in elementary schools and be read to the whole class. Just an overall great book with quality writing and a fun story.
