Petey The Pirate's Biggest Adventure - by Jamie Irving
Join Petey the portly pirate on his biggest adventure, to find love.

Singing as he goes, he travels shore to shore in search of the perfect date and hopefully his future wife. However, as the journey takes it’s toll, he sees a friendly face differently and realises love was in front of him all along. Whilst his future doesn’t look how he imagined at the start of the journey, he’s the happiest he’s ever been and finally has his first mate.

Help your kids to see love as love in any form, at any stage of life.

This is my favorite book that I have received about being gay. It is written in such a perfect subtle way. Most books I see on the topic have a very strong agenda to push the issue of gay acceptance. But this book doesn’t do that. It's just a book about love which happens to be about two men. In speaking with the author, what really stood out to me was what he said about his kids: “I don’t want them to grow up with any unconscious bias which could limit their future happiness, or the happiness of others. Essentially I need them to know that whatever makes them happy, I’m happy with, and I want them to know it as early as possible.” This is how parents should treat the subject. As early as possible we need to normalize being gay so that it doesn’t seem like a big deal later in life. This book is just a great example of gently introducing the love between two men. The illustrations are awesome. The pages even have some unfinished sections that are meant for the kids to color in themselves. I think this is one book that should be in everyone's home.
