Mouse and Majesty
By Emma Hutchinson, Illustrated by Charlotte Cleveland Mouse and Majesty is the story of a mouse who travels across England to meet Her Majesty the Queen and invite her home for tea. Despite enormous challenges involving a horse, a train, a bicycle, a boat and a dangerous cat he finally meets the Queen. She agrees to tea and the pair fly across the land in a hot air balloon to enjoy a well-deserved cuppa in Mouse's cosy barn. This book gives young children an insight to the Queen and London using pictures, relevant language and songs. It is complemented by six traditional and original songs to encourage children to develop early language and join in with the story. What a cute silly story. I love seeing the mouse just laying in some hay in his cosy barn watching TV. And the thought that he needs to invite the Queen for tea. My kids enjoyed all the rhyming. It's nice being from the U.S. and being able to share books like this with my kids to show them things around London. My son saw King’s Cross Station and said, “That's the one from Harry Potter!” They also recognized Big Ben. Cousin Stu drops out of a hot air balloon and helps bring Mouse to a royal show where Her Majesty was. Cousin Stu hopped out and Majesty hopped into the balloon. They float to Huttons Ambo and have their cup of tea. It's really fun to see new words myself and to show my children how people from London talk differently from us. Now, my kids are trying to use these words in their normal speech. The British accents are out in full force. Thanks Emma for a wonderful book to share with my kids.
