Maria Wants A Dog / Maria veut un chien (Bilingual English-French picture book for kids) (Little Miss Maria's World 1)
by Brenda Akwar The story begins with Maria telling us that her father promises to get her a dog when she turns 6 years old. The problem is she doesn’t know which type of dog to pick. Follow Maria along as she talks through which types of dogs she likes. Maybe she wants a small dog but doesn’t like their yapping. Maybe she wants a medium size dog who likes to run around. Maybe she wants a puffy and cuddly one. Read to find out which one Maria adopts. I thought the illustrations were really bright and fun. They were very detailed and my daughter loved seeing all of the different breeds of dogs. She would keep saying things like, “doggy is swimming” or “doggy in the bath”. The really cool thing about this book is that it is bilingual. My son liked reading the page in English and then trying to read it in French. If you are trying to introduce some language skills to your little one, this is a great way to do it. I took a little French in school so I was able to help translate a little bit. The book definitely kept my son's interest as he is really trying to understand the French words.
