The Traveling Fort: A Series of Adventures - By Kasey & Stephanie Thurmond
The Traveling Fort follows the imagination of brother and sister Kenly and Derrick, as they navigate through quarantine. They must comply with social distancing guidelines, but they find that playtime is much different now. Follow their journey as they travel around the world in their magical fort.
When we finished reading, I asked my son what he thought and he said “I love it, I love everything about this book.” This book was very fitting for us because we have had some version of a fort in our living room for more than half of this pandemic. I love books like this that teach kids to use their imagination and pretend they are doing something fun. In this story you will see the brother and sister build a fort and use their imagination to take them on a special trip to see their Cousin in NYC. The back of the book has some cool drawing activities for the kids to do. You can draw what your fort would look like, draw a picture of your face for how you are feeling during this pandemic, draw your favorite food to enjoy with your family(the kids in the book mention their favorite food), draw who you are most excited to see when this pandemic is over, and draw a place that you would want to travel to. This book is perfect for elementary school-aged children (Kindergarten through Fifth grades).
