The Grove of 100 Wishes - by Iris L Pelton-Hamlett, April Lynn Pelton
The way to overcome bullying is to replace it with kindness and to teach character and integrity. This is Ayanna’s goal in The Grove of 100 Wishes; to spread kindness. Ayanna is a girl with a big heart who loves helping others. Her benevolent spirit is tested when her siblings tease her and challenge her efforts in helping strangers along a journey that is meant to test each of them and teach a valuable lesson about character. What will Ada and Ade’ learn along the way? Travel with each of them to understand more about integrity, respect, and humility in The Grove of 100 Wishes. As a bonus, included are tools and tips to help your child or students grow.

What a great story this was. It had such a classic fairytale feel to it with a great lesson. The story is about 3 siblings, Ada, Ade’ and Ayanna who go on a journey to the grove of 100 wishes. Their father is the king and noticed the kids don’t bond well together. He tells them that they can each have one wish, but if they ask for more than one wish, they will be cursed and have to tend to the grove for 10 years. As they are on their journey they run into a few people who are in need of help. The two eldest siblings Ade’ and Ada refuse to help people they feel are beneath them. But the youngest sibling, Ayanna, wants to help everyone and even offers her wish up to help. Read the story to find out how this wonderful book ends. It’s a great book for teaching children about how to treat other people and the back of the book is filled with lots of extras for additional learning.
