The Biggidy Boggidy Bog Monster
by David Berry A cruel mayor in a small village sends a harmless monster to a stinky green bog, all because the monster is different from everyone else. All the villagers are afraid of the cruel mayor and never defy him. Anything the mayor says, goes. The villagers laugh at the expense of the monster, making fun of it whenever they can. Until one day when a boy stands up to him, followed by his sister and parents. They don’t agree with the mean mayor and think everyone should be accepting of the monster. Being different doesn’t make it ok to make fun of it. The villagers end up voting for a new mayor and the first plan is to invite the Biggidy Boggidy Bog Monster back to the village. The book has a great message about treating people with kindness no matter what. Differences don’t have to be a bad thing. I like that it shows how someone can stand up to someone even in a high position like the mayor. My son and I really loved the illustrations. That's what made this book for us. It really brings out a magical feel to the book with such great characters. The townspeople were so unique and fun and the mayor was an awesome villain.
