This is a story about a shelter dog named Kona and her first few weeks at her new home. She's wondering if this will be her forever home where she will no longer be lonely and sad (like her days at the animal shelter). At the new home, she participates in different fun activities with her new mom but causes mishaps & awkward moments and wonders if she will be sent back to the animal shelter. Will her new mom have extra love, patience, encouragement and even ideas to help solve the lack of confidence, quirkiness and problems often seen in a rescue dog? Will Kona finally find her forever home here?

What I really liked about this book was how Kona’s mommy treated Kona. People often get overly mad at their pets for acting how they should act, but it doesn’t seem good to them because they’re doing it in their home. These are animals. They should act like animals. I love that the book supports pet adoption. I love hearing the inner thoughts of Kona and how she is worried her mommy will send her back to the shelter. Then mommy acts so sweet and says “it’s okay Kona. I love you in your own way.” I think this book teaches an important lesson for how kids should treat animals with love and kindness even when they do something wrong. The illustrations are great. You will see some funny pages that your kids are sure to love.
