What a fantastic book this was. It is a story about a granddad getting a bike for his grandson Des and teaching him how to ride. I love seeing every step of the way, from first getting the safety gear on, starting with training wheels and eventually learning how to ride. I really loved seeing granddad remove the pedals off of the bike so that Des would learn how to coast on his bike and balance. And if he started to fall, he could catch himself with his feet. From my own personal experiences with my son and watching my nieces learn how to ride bikes, I would suggest never even allowing your children to use training wheels. I let my son do that for so long and he got so used to balancing on them that it took a very long time to teach him with just two wheels. My nieces learned how to ride with a balance bike (bike with no pedals) first and within 2 days of trying with pedals they were flying around. This book was written with so much love for the grandson and the story is just very nice. As I was reading it, I felt like I was reliving my own memories of teaching my son to ride. I would highly suggest this book to anyone who is about to teach their kid to ride or even if they have already learned. The main theme of this story is a great lesson; even if you fail, it is important to never give up, and to keep trying.
