Too Tall Tilly
by Melissa Beardall (Author), Rebecca Nichols (Author), Emma Valenghi (Illustrator) Too Tall Tilly tells the story of Matilda—nicknamed Tilly—a tall girl who often feels out of place among her classmates. Tired of standing out, she decides to reinvent herself each day with a new name and identity: a ballerina named Emilia, a teacher named Miss Hazel, a famous painter named Poppy, and even a princess named Phoebe. She decides she’ll be a princess forever—that is until mama and daddy share the story of her Great Aunt Matilda, a confident, trailblazing woman who stood tall—both in height and in spirit. Inspired by her aunt’s accomplishments, Tilly realizes that her name and her height are nothing to hide from. She learns to stand tall with pride, discovering that the best person she can be is herself. Too Tall Tilly is a charming and empowering story about self-acceptance, identity, and the courage to embrace what makes us unique. Authors Melissa Beardall and Rebecca Nichols capture the emotional ups and downs of childhood beautifully—how easy it is to wish we were someone else, and how powerful it feels to realize we’re already enough. The story is both tender and funny, and Emma Valenghi’s warm, expressive illustrations bring Tilly’s imagination and heart to life. Children will relate to Tilly’s playful transformations and cheer when she finally finds pride in being herself. It’s a wonderful read-aloud for families and classrooms alike, especially for kids learning about confidence, belonging, and individuality. Purchase the book on Amazon
