Fun with a Monster
by Ann Fleming (Author), Stefanie Geyer (Illustrator) Fun with a Monster is a charming and imaginative bedtime story that turns childhood fears into a playful adventure. Written in smooth, engaging rhyme, the story follows a young child who begins to feel nervous as nighttime settles in and familiar objects in the bedroom suddenly seem mysterious and frightening in the dark. After spotting what appears to be a towering monster with horns and a snout lurking against the wall, the child tries everything to stay calm. But instead of letting fear take over, imagination transforms the scary creature into “Snuff-Wuffle,” a friendly monster companion who goes to school, takes bubble baths, and travels on magical adventures. By morning, the child discovers the monster was only the shadow of a toy dinosaur cast by the nightlight, yet the experience leaves behind not fear, but excitement for future nighttime adventures. This story does a wonderful job capturing the very real emotions children feel at bedtime while gently showing how imagination can reshape fear into fun. The playful rhymes keep the story flowing naturally, making it an enjoyable read-aloud for parents and caregivers. Young readers will likely relate to the bedtime worries and delight in the creative transformation of the “monster” into a lovable friend. The illustrations add warmth and personality to the story, helping balance the spooky moments with humor and comfort. Overall, Fun with a Monster is a sweet, imaginative picture book that encourages courage, creativity, and a sense of wonder, making it a perfect addition to any bedtime bookshelf.
