Clark the Bully Shark
By Paula Jones Illustrated by Stephen Adams Clark is a bull shark living in Miami Beach who loves to surf but has a big problem—he’s a bully. He steals food and chases other sea creatures, making enemies instead of friends. One day, while chasing Myrtle the Turtle, he gets stuck in a hole in the coral reef. Because of his mean reputation, no one wants to help him. Desperate, Clark realizes he must change his ways and promises to stop bullying if the other sea creatures free him. After a group effort, they rescue Clark, who learns an important lesson about kindness. He’s treated at the Coral Reef Hospital and, in gratitude, keeps his word. He helps Myrtle with her babies, stops stealing, and gains real friends. In the end, Clark happily surfs the waves, having learned that treating others with respect brings true happiness. This story delivers a strong, meaningful lesson about kindness, friendship, and the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. The underwater setting, combined with playful characters like Myrtle the Turtle and Nurse Shark, makes the story engaging for young readers. The conflict—Clark’s bullying and eventual redemption—is easy to understand and provides a great teaching moment for kids. The resolution is heartwarming, showing that even bullies can change and be accepted if they truly make an effort. The simple language and fun ocean theme make it an enjoyable read, especially for children learning about empathy and good behavior. The ending, with Clark happily surfing, leaves the reader with a sense of joy and positivity. Purchase the book on Amazon
